Activity Description

Ptosis is known as the drooping of the upper eyelid, and the patient usually presents with the complaint of the defect in vision and cosmesis. It can be congenital or acquired, or it can be neurogenic, myogenic, aponeurotic, mechanical, or traumatic in origin. Proper evaluation, diagnosis, and accordingly, treatment are the key to prompt management of ptosis. This activity reviews the evaluation and treatment options of the ptosis and also highlights the importance of coordination in the interprofessional team members treating the disease to improve the patient outcome.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician associates, nurses, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:

  • Review different types of ptosis based on etiology.
  • Outline the typical presenting complaints of a patient with ptosis.
  • Describe the different surgical procedures for the correction of ptosis along with their indications.
  • Summarize the importance of coordination between healthcare team members regarding the management of a patient with ptosis.
