Activity Description

A Baker's cyst is a fluid-filled sac that forms in the popliteal fossa, which is located on the posterior aspect of the knee. In adults, Baker's cysts are commonly associated with degenerative conditions of the knee, and patients may present with tightness, discomfort, or pain behind the knee. This activity reviews the presentation, complications, and management of Baker's cysts and stresses the role of the interprofessional team in the care of patients with Baker's cysts.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician associates, nurses, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:

  • Describe the clinical features of Baker's cysts.
  • Describe the evaluation of Baker's cysts.
  • Outline the management of Baker's cysts.
  • Employ interprofessional team strategies for improving care coordination and communication to enhance outcomes for patients affected by Baker's cysts.
