Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Apply current expert recommendations and guidelines for prostate cancer screening.
Assess the controversy associated with prostate cancer screening and design a reasonable screening plan for individual patients.
Identify the basis of PSA testing, normal ranges, pre-biopsy tests, the pros and cons of prostate cancer screening, and the indications for a prostate biopsy.
Collaborate with the interprofessional healthcare team to improve patient selection for screening as well as the outcomes of PSA testing and to implement published guidelines into their practice routine.
