Activity Description

Dust mite allergy is an IgE mediated Type 1 hypersensitivity reaction to dust mite allergens, commonly found in household dust. The prevalence of atopic diseases like allergic rhinitis and asthma with house dust mite being the allergen has been increasing. This activity reviews the evaluation and treatment of dust mite allergy and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in improving care for patients with this condition.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician associates, nurses, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:

  • Describe the etiology of dust mite allergy.
  • Review the appropriate evaluation of patients with dust mite allergy.
  • Outline the management considerations for patients with dust mite allergy.
  • Summarize the importance of collaboration and communication amongst the interprofessional team to enhance care coordination for patients with dust mite allergy.
