Activity Description

Progressive collapsing foot deformity, also known as adult-acquired flatfoot or posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, manifests as the collapse of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot, accompanied by progressive deformity of the foot and ankle. This condition, affecting up to 5 million individuals in the United States, presents a significant challenge in clinical practice. The foot and ankle's intricate anatomy, comprising structures crucial for stability and weight-bearing such as the posterior tibial tendon, spring ligament, and deltoid ligament, underscores the complexity of progressive collapsing foot deformity.

Participation in this activity offers learners a comprehensive understanding of the condition's complexities, from its anatomical underpinnings to its clinical management. Learners explore the nuances of diagnosing progressive collapsing foot disorder, recognizing subtle signs and symptoms, and interpreting imaging studies effectively. Participants gain proficiency in formulating tailored treatment plans, incorporating conservative measures like bracing and physical therapy, as well as surgical interventions when warranted. This activity clinicians' interprofessional collaboration and competence in diagnosing and managing progressive collapsing foot deformity. Engaging with a multidisciplinary team comprising family clinicians, specialty-trained nurses, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and radiologists fosters comprehensive care delivery.
