Activity Description

This activity discusses the indications, mechanism of action, administration, adverse effects, contraindications, monitoring, and toxicity of insulin aspart, a rapid-acting, human insulin analog FDA-approved for diabetes management. Insulin aspart can also be used to treat diabetic ketoacidosis, though this is an off-label use. This initiative facilitates informed decision-making and optimization of dosage regimens by equipping healthcare professionals with comprehensive knowledge while minimizing adverse reactions. The interprofessional healthcare team's pivotal role in managing insulin aspart therapy is highlighted, and collaborative approaches for improving patient outcomes are emphasized.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician associates, nurses, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:

  • Identify the appropriate indications for insulin aspart.

  • Assess the appropriate dosing of insulin aspart as part of a diabetes regimen.

  • Evaluate the adverse event profile of insulin aspart.

  • Communicate interprofessional team strategies for improving care coordination to advance appropriate clinical results with insulin aspart therapy as part of a diabetes glycemic control treatment plan.
