What are typical findings in a patient with suspected toxoplasmosis of the brain?
Select Your Answer:
Typical central nervous system observation in patients with toxoplasmosis include multiple ring enhancing lesions on MRI.
Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease with cats being the primary host. The protozoan parasite is Toxoplasma gondii.
Humans take up the parasite via ingestion of raw or partly cooked pork, lamb, or venison, or via inadvertent ingestion of infected cat feces.
The acute toxoplasmosis infection is associated with influenza-like symptoms: lymphadenopathy and myalgias lasting a month or more. It typically subsides eventually in most people, but can be more devastating in those who are immunosuppressed or immunocompromised.
