The neurovascular bundle is important in the femoral triangle because femoral punctures are commonly performed in the hospital.
The femoral nerve is always lateral to the artery.
Femoral venipunctures are done by palpating the pulse and placing the needle about 1 cm medially.
In some cases, the femoral artery may be small and may be overlapped by the femoral vein. It is important not to injure the femoral vein during percutaneous cannulation as the pain can be severe and long-lasting.
