At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify the underlying factors that may lead to functional asplenia, a condition characterized by the reduced or absent function of the spleen.
Screen patients at risk for functional asplenism, including those with underlying conditions or a history of splenectomy.
Review the management options available for functional asplenism and be able to implement them appropriately.
Explain interprofessional team strategies for improving care coordination and communication to diagnose and advance the management of functional asplenism to improve patient quality of life, longevity, and outcomes.
