At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Differentiate between alkali and acid exposures, considering the distinct management approaches required for each type of caustic substance.
Implement timely and evidence-based management strategies for alkali toxicity, including airway management, decontamination, and supportive care, based on the severity of the exposure.
Apply the Zargar-modified endoscopic classification system to grade the extent of alkali injury during endoscopy, guiding further treatment decisions.
Collaborate with an interprofessional healthcare team, including toxicologists, gastroenterologists, and ophthalmologists, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for patients with alkali toxicity.
